The Wrestler

When you think wrestler, who do you think of:  Ric Flair? Ricky Steamboat?  Andre the Giant?  The Rock?  The Undertaker?  Most would probably say Hulk Hogan....  How about Jacob?

24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.  25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.  26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,a because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”
29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”
But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”  Ge 32:24-30 (NIV)

We really fault Jacob for this, I mean really come down hard on him saying, "why in the world would you fight/wrestle with God all night long it's ridiculous.  True as it may sound, we do the same thing.  Though we may not do it physically, but we do it emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  So here are a few points to learn from Jacob's Wrestling match with God.

  • Jacob couldn't win, he was determined and lasted all night long, but in the end He still lost.... Stop wasting your time, If God wants you to do something, Just do it.
  • God is more determined than you are, He will outlast you, so Just do it.
  • God's not going to force you to do anything, it's up to you, so Just do it.
  • Jacob walked away maimed, God touched his hip and he walked with a limp.  Your gonna get banged up a little by refusing to not do what God wants you to do, so Just do it.
  • Jacob tried to force the "man" aka God to bless Him after wrestling all night.  How can you EXPECT God to bless you if you refuse to do what He says, so Just do it.
  • In the end God gets what He wants, so either its from you or from someone else, so Just Do it
  • In the end Jacob realized it was God (vs. 30), so Just Do it.
  • Just Do it.
So what did we learn from this:  Just Do it.  You save yourself time, energy, and trouble if you and I will Just Do what God wants us to do.  God wants to use you and I.  You and I are blessed when we Just do what God wants us to do.

Just do it.....

have a great day, Chris
